Story in Pictures – Farmers in Akola, India

During our visit to the Aloka district in Maharashtra, we saw a mother and a child walking towards a cotton farm. Many farmers have switched from growing cotton to growing soybeans. Why? Growing Soya beans are less labor intensive and the crop is less dependent on weather conditions. With the changing weather patterns sustaining cotton crops has been difficult for most farmers!
